conceived by foster + partners as a fairground with undulating tracks and demonstration areas for the latest technological innovations related to mobility, the pavilion includes a high-speed track that runs in a loop around the pavilion, showcasing the potential of personal mobility. one of the highlights for guests will be seeing a hyperloop capsule in action. the building also features the world’s largest passenger elevator, which will be capable of transporting more that 160 people at a time.
externally, the façade features a series of horizontal stainless-steel fins that wrap around the building. elsewhere, the roof hosts an array of both photovoltaic and solar hot water panels. once inside, visitors will discover the ‘historical giants’ of mobility whose innovations helped navigate the world and paved the way for the technology we use today. expo 2020 dubai says that the pavilion will demonstrate how mobility will continue to transform the way we live, connect with people, understand different cultures, and exchange knowledge and ideas.
the pavilion and its exhibitions will also inform visitors about how goods are transported around the world, and how mobility could evolve in the human-centered city of the future. in addition, guests are invited to discover the smart cities that are being created through artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous transport. inspired by hoverboard and jetpack demonstrations, visitors will also be able to build their own robot, design a spaceship, or attend workshops and technology-inspired performances.
expo 2020 dubai recently invited visitors to explore the site’s sustainability pavilion and its surrounding public spaces, offering a glimpse of what is to come when the expo begins in october 2021. bookings can be made online, with the pavilion open for a first look until april 10, 2021. see designboom’s ongoing coverage of the event here.
